Week 3 of Region 9 football delivered everything from dominant performances to down-to-the-wire finishes. Hurricane and Crimson Cliffs rolled to convincing victories, while Pine View battled a powerhouse from Hawaii, and Snow Canyon and Desert Hills came up just short in tight road losses. Meanwhile, Dixie continued searching for its first win of the season after falling at Northridge.

WATCH: REGION 9 REWIND — WEEK 3

This week’s Region 9 Rewind features highlights from around the region.

Hurricane vs Murray

Hurricane remained unbeaten with another dominant performance, taking down Murray at home. The Tigers’ defense set the tone with an interception by Bentley Fischer and continued to pressure the Spartans throughout the night, including a big sack from Dax Alley. Quarterback Kannon Cowan powered the offense with touchdown runs of 20 and 77 yards while also connecting with Carter Wardle on a spectacular diving touchdown catch. Hurricane pulled away for a 49-21 victory, improving to 3-0 on the season.

Game Highlight: The play of the game came when Kannon Cowan rolled to his left and delivered a strike on the run to Carter Wardle, who laid out for a spectacular diving touchdown catch.

Pine View vs Campbell

James Campbell made the trip from Hawaii and jumped out to an early lead against Pine View in a physical, chippy matchup. The Panthers answered with an 80-yard touchdown connection from Coy Doman to Carter Buchanan, while Trey Leaupepe provided another spark with a forced fumble and recovery. However, Campbell’s defense helped break the game open with a pick-six and another key turnover as the Sabers built a deficit Pine View couldn’t overcome. Doman and the Panthers continued to battle, but Campbell pulled away for a 48-27 victory.

Game Highlight: Coy Doman delivered the biggest highlight of the night for Pine View, dropping back and finding Carter Buchanan downfield for an 80-yard touchdown.

Crimson Cliffs vs Cedar Valley

Crimson Cliffs bounced back after allowing the opening score, taking control on both sides of the ball in a dominant performance against Cedar Valley. Hu Alisa powered the Mustangs’ offense with four rushing touchdowns, including an impressive 39-yard run, while Tanoai Andresen added a rushing score and connected with Koy Duckett for another touchdown. Defensively, Porter Wright provided one of the highlights of the night, deflecting a pass and then securing his own deflection for an interception. The Mustangs rolled to a convincing 42-7 victory over Cedar Valley.

Game Highlight: Porter Wright elevated to deflect a pass, tracked the ball in the air and then hauled in his own deflection for an impressive interception.

AROUND REGION 9

Elsewhere around Region 9, three teams hit the road in tightly contested non-region matchups.

Cedar 10, Snow Canyon 6

Snow Canyon found itself in a defensive battle on the road against Cedar. The Warriors were held to just six points as the Reds came away with a 10-6 victory.

Salem Hills 14, Desert Hills 12

Desert Hills went down to the wire against Salem Hills in a low-scoring battle. The Thunder came up just short as the Skyhawks held on for a 14-12 victory.

PLAY OF THE WEEK

Presented by Jimmy John's

Kannon Cowan escaped the pocket and rolled to his left before firing a perfectly placed pass on the run toward the end zone. Carter Wardle went full extension, laying out to make a spectacular diving catch and securing the ball for the touchdown. The combination of Cowan’s throw on the move and Wardle’s diving grab earns Hurricane the Jimmy John’s Play of the Week.

Rewind that.
