Region 9 Rewind: Week 1 Weathers a Stormy Opening Night
Presented by Red Cliffs
Week 1 of Region 9 football had a little bit of everything: weather delays, dominant road wins and a three-overtime thriller at Snow Canyon. Four Region 9 teams opened the season with victories, while Crimson Cliffs nearly erased a 24-point deficit and Dixie showed flashes of big-play potential in its opener.
WATCH: REGION 9 REWIND — WEEK 1
This week’s Region 9 Rewind features highlights from around the region.
Dixie vs Richfield
Richfield started fast and never really let up, jumping on Dixie early and keeping the pressure on throughout the night. The Flyers struggled to find a consistent rhythm offensively, but there were still glimpses of what this team could become as the season progresses. Dixie found the end zone behind quarterback Riker Muhlestein and showed some big-play ability through the air, even as Richfield continued to pull away. The Wildcats ultimately proved to be too much, taking the season opener 62–20.
Game Highlight: The highlight of the night has to go to Brygunn Soderquist, who hauled in an incredible one-handed catch in the second half. Some players are just built differently.

Crimson Cliffs vs Lone Peak
Lone Peak came out firing, building a 24–0 advantage before a costly turnover helped breathe life into the Mustangs. Crimson Cliffs responded in a big way, outscoring Lone Peak 21–6 over the final 11 minutes while making key stops defensively and finding success on offense both through the air and on the ground. The comeback ultimately came up short in the 33–21 loss, but the way Crimson Cliffs finished the game showed what this team is capable of. If the Mustangs can bring that same level of intensity for four quarters, they could be a team to watch as the season progresses.
Game Highlight: Tanoi Andresen gave Koy Duckett a chance in the corner of the end zone, and Duckett did the rest—going up over the defender and snatching the ball for the touchdown. A huge play that earned this week's Play of the Week.

AROUND REGION 9
It was a big opening night across Region 9, with several teams starting their seasons with impressive wins.
Snow Canyon 64, Spanish Fork 62
This was a back-and-forth battle that couldn’t be decided in regulation, eventually needing three overtimes to determine a winner. Snow Canyon showed plenty of resilience when it mattered most, outlasting Spanish Fork in a 64–62 thriller to open the season with a hard-fought victory.
Desert Hills 40, Hillcrest 0
Desert Hills made a statement on the road, shutting out Hillcrest 40–0 in a dominant season-opening performance.
Hurricane 47, Virgin Valley 12
Hurricane also took care of business away from home, picking up a convincing 47–12 victory over Virgin Valley.
Pine View 44, Manti 28
Pine View rounded out the night with another Region 9 road victory, defeating Manti 44–28.
